Hasse Asks for Your Vote on November 4
Carol Hasse, an integral leader in Jefferson County’s flourishing maritime culture and economy for more than 40 years, is seeking reelection as Port Commissioner for a second four-year term. Hasse points to Port progress during her first term, and she is eager to serve for another four years to make use of the experience she has gained and the relationships she has developed.
“We’ve improved infrastructure and expanded facilities, and at the same time protected delicate local ecosystems. More projects are planned, and the funding is in place. It would be an honor to continue to serve.”
The Port’s impact on the region’s economy is enormous; today the marine trades support fully one in five jobs in Jefferson County. And for nearly half a century, Hasse has been a key contributor to the renaissance of Port Townsend’s world-class, working water front and its international renown as a creative center of maritime expertise and education.
Going forward, Hasse sees a role for the Port in tackling broader concerns. Collaborating with municipal, tribal, and other public and private partners, the Port can address urgent issues facing the region, such as workforce housing, food security, climate-change resiliency.
Facilities owned and operated by the Port include:
• Boat Haven and Point Hudson Marinas in Port Townsend,
• the Herb Beck Marina in Quilcene,
• the marine-trades facilities at the Boat Haven boat yard,
• Short’s Family Farm,
• Jefferson County International Airport,
• and boat launches at Gardiner, Mats-Mats Bay and Port Hadlock.
Forum Video Available; Hasse Thanks League of Women Voters
As part of their mission to empower voters and defend democracy, the League of Women Voters of Jefferson County hosted an online forum for Port Commission candidates on Oct. 21.
“I truly appreciate the work of the League,” said Hasse, “and want to thank them for shining a light on the important issues facing the Port. I was honored to participate.”
